The role of the school governor is demanding but very rewarding. School governing bodies are responsible for working with their schools to ensure that they deliver a good quality education. Governors play a key role in the strategic leadership of the school helping ensure that the students receive a high-quality education, planning the future direction of the school and making sure that the school budget is well-spent. School governors monitor and evaluate progress, ensure accountability and champion success they also appoint the senior staff.
Governors are one of the largest volunteer forces in the country and play an important part in raising school standards. The role of the governing board is absolutely key to the effectiveness of a school. Time and time again Ofsted (the national inspection body for schools) has noted that the most effective schools demonstrate effective leadership and management – including by the governing board.
