Ofsted – This school continues to be Good

Delighted staff, students and Governors of Kineton High School & Sixth Form are celebrating after receiving a glowing report from Ofsted inspectors. The school was recognised as continuing to be Good following its latest inspection in January and inspectors commented: ‘Leaders have maintained the good quality of education since the last inspection.’

What was particularly pleasing was that the inspectors recognised the school’s passion for ensuring students’ achievement. The school’s mission is for all students to ‘Achieve their Personal Best’ and this comes through strongly in the report.

Inspectors noted, ‘you are determined and passionate about improving standards in your school and make teaching and learning the priority in all you do.’ ‘You are driven by a moral purpose to ensure that all pupils succeed.’ ‘You know your pupils well and make it your business to understand the barriers for learning that pupils face and help them overcome these.’

Inspectors visited the school for one day; they met with key staff and governors, visited lessons from all year groups and across a wide range of subjects. They talked to pupils, looked at their work in lessons and their books and analysed questionnaires completed by staff, students and parents. The report states that ‘parents and students are positive about the school and staff stated that they enjoy working at Kineton.’

Ofsted recognised that leaders at all levels ‘know the strengths and weaknesses of the school well.’ ‘They carefully and thoroughly evaluate what works and have robust plans to address areas that require attention’. They also identified that ‘Governors are a strength of the school’.

The quality of teaching was also highlighted, it is described as ‘having a good impact across the school, enabling pupils to be curious and interested in their learning’. The inspectors were very positive in their feedback about the lessons they observed.  The report states ‘Leaders work well with outside agencies and pursue the best outcomes for pupils. Consequently, parents and pupils are positive about the care and support they receive, especially those who need additional help’.

Inspectors were also impressed with the progress of students, noting that ‘pupils in the school continue to do well’, ‘pupil progress is increasingly strong in English and especially good in Mathematics’ and ‘the majority of pupils who left in 2016 made good progress from their starting points’.

Pupils were also singled out for praise with the report describing them as ‘friendly, confident, polite and respectful of each other’, and that they ‘behave very well’ and ‘are proud of their school and the difference they make’.

Head teacher, Siona Robson said ‘We are delighted that the report details so many very positive features. The Ofsted inspectors have confirmed what we already knew – that Kineton High School & Sixth Form is a great place to work and learn. The report is a testament to the hard work and commitment of all members of the Kineton team: students, staff, parents and governors.’

A full copy of the report, which is in the form of a letter is available on the school’s website or from Ofsted.
